1st Prittlewell Scout Group, working with young people since 1909

1st Prittlewell Scout Group is one of the largest Scout Groups in Southend Estuary District, in Essex, and is based at St Mary’s Church, Prittlewell. Our Group was established in 1909 and has a Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop. 1st Prittlewell welcomes all young people aged 6 – 14.

Beaver Scouts are young people aged between six and eight years old. They belong to the first and youngest Section in the Scouting family. Young people can join Beaver Scouts in the three months leading up to their sixth birthday. They can move to the next Section, Cub Scouts, between eight and eight years six months. Our Beavers enjoy lots of games and craft in our weekly meetings during term time, gain badges and also take part in District events, outings and sleepovers.

As a Cub Scout you get to try lots of different activities, and if you do them properly you earn a badge to wear on your uniform. Cub Scouts also go on trips and days out, and go camping two or three times a year with the rest of the Cub Pack. This means sleeping in a tent and doing lots of outdoor activities.

Scouting is about being with friends, as part of a team, participating fully in the adventure and opportunities of life. Scouts are encouraged to take part in a wide range of activities as part of their programme. Scouts take part in a balanced programme that helps them to find out about the world in which they live, encourages them to know their own abilities and the importance of keeping fit and helps develop their creative talents. It also provides opportunities to explore their own values and personal attitudes.
